Sorry, I can't help you much on this one. I'm assuming you will be hooking up with a reputable lodge or outfitter... they should be able to answer all of you questions.

I do know that many of the South and Central American tarpon fishing destinations offer tarpon fishing. I would be sure to ask some questions like: Will I be ‘sight fishing’ or will I be dredging with a sinking line all day? What kind of vessel will I be fishing out of? What about the lodge's safety record, safety gear and regulations? What about the guides, are they Captains?

As for tarpon in fishing in general I'm confident in telling you that there is no place in the world like the Florida Keys in the Spring and Summer and the Everglades from Fall to Spring that offers better "sight fishing" for big tarpon.
