I think the range should be 0 to 20%... I think that 15% is fair "norm." I also think that your guides tip should be based on effort... preparation and time on the water should be a factor as well. Fishing is never a sure thing and is a team effort so in my opinion results should not be the deciding factor. An example of “zero tip” would be a guide who sits on his poling platform all day, looks at his watch, fishes himself and continually talks on his cell phone… maybe not giving him a tip would help that guy in the long run! The other end of the spectrum is the guide who works hard, spends the time and goes the distance to try to satisfy his anglers. I think that these days with more guides and competition that the later example is the “norm.” I want to say that my comments mostly apply to the guide who has been hired for light tackle and flats fishing.
